Taxonomic Comments
Phylogenetic results of Nazaire and Hufford (2014) recover Mertensia ovata as species, distinct from M. viridis, which includes the taxon Williams (1937) treated as M. viridis var. caelestina as M. ovata var. caelestina. Kartesz (1994) included M. viridis var. caelestina in the synonymy of M. lanceolata var. nivalis.
