This lichen ranges from Texas and Mississippi to Illinois, with disjunctions in California, southeastern Arizona and the southern Appalachians. Also found in the Mexican states of Sinoloa, Sonora, and Coahuila. This species is usually found in open sites and is, to date, reportedly under collected.
