Taxonomic Comments
Stotler and Crandall-Stotler (2017) recognize two varieties in Pellia epiphylla, where var. epiphylla (= equivalent to Stotler and Crandall-Stotler's 1977 concept of P. ephiphylla) occurs in North America and var. borealis occurs in Europe.

This species is widespread and common in eastern North America from Labrador to Mississippi, and in the west is reported from Alaska south to Wyoming; it is also widespread in Europe (Stotler and Crandall-Stotler 2017).
