Peltigera collina is a circumpolar species, although it does not have a continuous range. The lichen is common and widespread in the western United States, from low elevations to subalpine habitat; it is very rare in the eastern United States. The species also occurs on the north shore of Lake Superior in Ontario and South America.
Range Extent Comments
Cirumpolar, occurs in the western and eastern parts of North America and on the north shore of Lake Superior. It also occurs in South America (Thomson 1984). Alberta, Ontario.
Ecology & Habitat

Habitat

Grows on soil, mosses, humus over boulders, and base of trees (Hale 1979). Also grows on rotting logs (Thomson 1984). On mossy bark and rock; low elevations to subalpine, generally in moist habitats (McCune and Goward 1995).
