Rank Reasons
This lichen is scattered in North America; it occurs from Alaska to Idaho and California, on the southern border of the Hudson Bay, near the Great Lakes and in New England to Nova Scotia. In the west, it can colonize inland sites and is largely coastal in the east. This species usually grows on bark, but occasionally on rocks.
