Per Mast and Reveal (2007), when moving Dodecatheon ellisiae to Primula, "Primula standleyana A. R. Mast & Reveal, nom. nov., Dodecatheon ellisiae Standl., Proc. Biol. Soc. Wash. 26: 195. 1913, non P. ellisiae Pollard & Cockerell, 1902." FNA (vol. 88, 2009) elevates Dodecatheon dentatum ssp. ellisiae to full species as D. ellisiae.
