Taxonomic CommentsSee Carney and Page (1990) for a diagnosis and information on meristic variation. See Mayden et al. (1991) for a morphometric phylogenetic analysis of the genera Mylophardon and Ptychocheilus; no taxonomic changes were proposed, but the population of P. umpquae in the Siuslaw drainage was easily separable from that in the Umpqua drainage and may warrant recognition as a separate taxon; further study is warranted. Differences in genome size also suggest that these two populations represent different species (Gold and Li 1994).
