This record is for broad treatment of Sambucus nigra which includes, in addition to European elders (ssp. nigra), ssp. canadensis and ssp. caerulea, as recognized in Kartesz (1999). Other treatments (e.g., Weakley et al. (2023)) recognize these as distinct species.
