Taxonomic Comments
A broad-sense concept of this species, as treated by the Flora of North America (2003). FNA recognizes two subspecies within S. pumila: S. pumila ssp. pallidefusca (= Kartesz's 1994 and 1999 Setaria pumila), native to tropical Africa and established in the southern and western coastal US, and S. pumila ssp. pumila [= Kartesz's (1994) Setaria glauca = Kartesz's (1999) Pennisetum glaucum], native to Europe and established throughout temperate North America. FNA regards the name "Setaria glauca" as "within the Flora region, misapplied to Setaria pumila ssp. pumila".
