Taxonomic Comments
Rabeler and Gandhi (2021) propose the new combination Silene greenei ssp. angustifolia for what had been called Silene campanulata ssp. campanulata since the name Silene campanulata S. Watson is illegitimate. "Silene greenei (S. Watson) Howell is a homotypic synonym of S. campanulata var. greenei S. Watson and is available as a heterotypic synonym at species rank for use in place of S. campanulata S. Watson" (Rabeler and Gandhi 2021). "At the subspecies rank, the autonym Silene greenei ssp. greenei replaces S. campanulata ssp. glandulosa (Rabeler and Gandhi 2021). Flora of North America Editorial Committee (2005) had used Silene campanulata (ssp. campanulata and ssp. glandulosa) in the print publication but subsequently updated its online sources to Silene greenei (ssp. angustifolia and ssp. greenei ).
