Taxonomic Comments
Plant of southern Florida and Caribbean; in U.S. and on U.S. Caribbean Islands. Formerly included in Smilax havanensis (as in 1994 Kartesz checklist), but in 1999 dataset considered by him to be distinct. S. havanensis as now understood by Kartesz occurs in Cuba and Jamaica but not in the USA or in either Puerto Rico or the U.S. Virgin Islands.
