It is thought to be native to Cuba but has been introduced to Jamaica, the Bahamas, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Guam, Antigua, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Dominca, Barbados, St. Croix, Olosega (Manu'a Islands), Tutuila (American Samoa), Pohnpei (Micronesia), Rota, the Northern Mariana Islands, and Hawaii.

Occurrences Comments
In California it only occurs in Santa Barbara Co. (McDonnell et al., 2009). In the Hawaiian Islands, it was first reported from O'ahu in 1985 with newer records from Kaua'i, Moloka'i, Lana'i, Maui, and Hawai'i (Hayes et al., 2007).

Habitat

It is a serious agricultural and horticultural pest on Hawaii, Rota and Guam and is found in many habitats from relatively undisturbed natural habitats to agricultural and suburban areas.
