Taxonomic CommentsThis species was previously considered a subspecies of Rhinichthys osculus. Multiple genetic analyses support its recognition as a full species and also identified three lineages within it (Su et al. 2022; Wiesenfeld et al. 2018; Smith et al. 2017). The three lineages are treated as distinct subspecies, klamathensis, achomawi, and goyatoka (Moyle et al. 2023).
