Endemic to California in the North Coast Ranges, San Francisco Bay Area, South Coast Ranges, and the western Western Transverse Ranges (Hickman 1993). Bioregions of occurrence highlighted by Hickman cover 30,000 square miles although the actual extent could be less than this.
Occurrences Comments
Aquilegia eximia is not tracked so there are no element occurrence records for it. There are 40 accession records in the Consortium of California Herbaria database as of Feb. 2007, only 9 of which were collected since 1980.

Habitat

Seeps, moist ravines, often serpentine soils, mixed-evergreen or coniferous forest, 100-1800 meters.
