Eriogonum elegans is endemic to coastal mountains of California in the western United States (FNA 2005). Specifically, it occurs in Fresno, Monterey, San Benito, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Santa Clara, and Ventura counties. Range extent was estimated to be 30,270 square kilometers.
