Camissonia ignota has a broad range in central and southern California and it extends down into Baja California. It has been widely and fairly frequently collected and occurs in a fairly broad elevation range and in a mix of habitats which are common in California.
Range Extent Comments
In California Camissonia ignota occurs in the following bioregions: central High Sierra Nevada (Madera County), Sacramento Valley (uncommon), Central Western California, Southwestern California (including Santa Cruz Island); also ranges to northern Baja California (Hickman 1993).
Occurrences Comments
The precise number of distinct occurrences is unknown, however, there are 156 accession records in the Consortium of California Herbaria database as of March 2007; about half of these have been collected since 1980.
Ecology & Habitat

Habitat

Generally clay fields, slopes in coastal-sage scrub or chaparral, sandy soils in mountains (Hickman 1993).
