Taxonomic Comments
Kartesz (1994 and 1999) includes Lasthenia chrysostoma (syn: Baeria chrysostoma) in L. californica. Flora of North America (Vol. 21, 2006), following R. Chan's 2002 Madrono treatment, includes L. macrantha ssp. macrantha and L. macrantha ssp. bakeri (both California endemics) as subspecies of L. californica (L. c. ssp. macrantha and L. c. ssp. bakeri) which Kartesz (1999) did not. FNA also includes L. chrysostoma in L. californica, however, their distribution map shows L. californica only occurring in California and Oregon, while Kartesz (1999) also shows it in Arizona, New Mexico, and Massachusetts (it is apparently exotic in MA).
