Taxonomic Comments
This record is for the narrow concept of Pentagramma maxonii, excluding P. glanduloviscida, following Schuettpelz et al. (2015), who elevate infraspecific taxa of Pentagramma triangularis to the species level, newly combining P. triangularis ssp. maxonii as P. maxonii. In contrast, Kartesz (1994) recognizes a broader concept of P. maxonii (as P. triangularis ssp. maxonii), including P. glanduloviscida.

The circumscription of the genus with six species following Schuettpelz et al. (2015) and the generic placement of this taxon are in accordance with the Pteridophyte Phylogeny Group I (2016).
