Concept ReferenceKartesz, J.T. 1994. A synonymized checklist of the vascular flora of the United States, Canada, and Greenland. 2nd edition. 2 vols. Timber Press, Portland, OR.
Taxonomic CommentsKartesz (1999) and Baldwin et al. (2012) recognize Quercus parvula and three varieties, 'parvula', 'shrevei, and 'tamalpaisensis', while Flora of North America (1997) places all of these taxa in Quercus wislinzeni. FNA notes that Q. parvula was treated as distinct from Q. wislizeni based on leaf and nut characters. The varieties were distinguished as follows: variety parvula is a shrub, variety shrevei a tree less than 17m and variety tamalpaisensis based on small populations near Mount Tamalpais, California.
