Rank ReasonsBellemerea alpina grows on acid rock that are in full sun. It is circumpolar arctic-alpine and in western North America it ranges south to California. This lichen species also occurs sporadically in Greenland, Alaska, the Northwest Territories, Newfoundland, and Ontario (Thomson 1997).
