Taxonomic Comments
Some treatments include Mentzelia ravenii in M. gracilenta. FNA (2016, vol. 12), followed here, and Brokaw et al. (2012) recognize them as distinct species. Brokaw, in the FNA treatment, explains, "Mentzelia gracilenta is very similar morphologically to M. ravenii, but it does not occur in desert communities, as does M. ravenii. Furthermore, these taxa appear to be phylogenetically distinct" referencing Brokaw and Hufford (2010b).
