Known only from the greater Sonoran Desert region in California and Baja California at about 1300 meters elevation (Nash et al. 2002). Grows on calcium poor siliceous rocks and is apparently strongly nitrophilous, but grows in somewhat shaded areas (Nash et al. 2002).
