Taxonomic Comments
Arabis suffrutescens var. suffrutescens of Kartesz (1994, 1999) is equivalent to Boechera suffructescens of Flora of North America Editorial Committee (2010) . Kartesz (1994, 1999) treats 'horizontalis' material as a variety of Arabis suffructescens. Flora of North America Editorial Committee (2010) treat Boechera horizontalis and Boechera suffructescens as distinct species.

Rank Reasons
Arabis suffrutescens var. suffrutescens occurs from California, Nevada, Oregon and Idaho (Kartesz 1999). This species occurs in the greatest number of floristic provinces in California; it occurs in the east Klamath Ranges, Cascade Ranges, the Sierra Nevadas, and east of the Sierras in the Sweetwater Mountains (Baldwin et al. 2002). In Oregon it occurs in the southeastern counties and two counties in along the border of Idaho. In Idaho, it occurs in the central portion of the state and extends east, but not to the border (Kartesz 2003). In addition, this species is found on dry rocky and brushy slopes, metamorphic chip-rock, steep gravelly slopes, rocky granitic hillsides, basaltic outcrops, scree and ridges (Rollins 1993).
