Taxonomic CommentsThis record represents the narrow concept of Calliscirpus brachythrix. Gilmour et al. (2013) newly combine Eriophorum crinigerum (= Scirpus criniger), which is neither an Eriophorum nor a Scirpus, in a new genus, Calliscirpus. Further, this taxon is now split into two allopatric species, C. criniger comb. nov. and C. brachythrix sp. nov.

Calliscirpus brachythrix grows in "alpine and montane meadows and seepage slopes surrounded by conifers. Often near streams, creeks or with underground seeps; alt. 1250 to 3600 m.," often on acidic substrates (Gilmour et al. 2013, Jepson 2025).
