Kartesz (1999) includes Taraxacum alaskanum in Taraxacum phymatocarpum, whereas Flora of North America (2006) recognizes it as a species distinct from T. phymatocarpum. Flora of North America (2006) also includes Taraxacum kamtschaticum material in T. alaskanum; Kartesz (1999) places T. kamtschaticum material in T. lyratum.
