Range Extent1000-200,000 square km (about 400-80,000 square miles)
Rank Reasons
Astragalus sepultipes appears to have been collected from only one county in California, seems to be restricted to a limited elevation range (1800-1950 meters), and may be dependent on fire. More research is needed to determine its rarity.
Range Extent Comments
Endemic to California in the East of Sierra Nevada and perhaps eastern edge of the central and southern High Sierra Nevada bioregions (Hickman 1993). Collections in the Consortium of California Herbaria as of March 2007 are only from Inyo County.
Occurrences Comments
Number of separate occurrences is unknown, however there are only 23 accession records in the Consortium of California Herbaria, only 6 of which are since 1969.
Ecology & Habitat

Habitat

Occurs on dry, granitic sand, among sagebrush (Hickman 1993). Most recent collections note that Astragalus sepultipes is found in areas that have recently (within two years) burned (Consortium of California Herbaria, March 2007). Habitat is sagebrush and pinyon communities (Flora of North America Editorial Committee (2023).
