Taxonomic Comments
Stotler and Crandall-Stotler (1977) recognized two subspecies in Frullania tamarisci: ssp. asagrayana and ssp. nisquallensis. Stotler and Crandall-Stotler (2017) elevate F. tamarisci ssp. asagrayana (= F. asagrayana) and F. tamarisci ssp. nisquallensis (= F. nisquallensis) here to full species level. Frullania tamarisci sensu stricto is common throughout Europe, but in North America is restricted to the extreme northeastern United States and Canada (Stotler and Crandall-Stotler 2017).
