Taxonomic Comments
The validity of the poorly known Aceria fraxiniflora has been controversial; it has been treated as either separate from A. fraxinivora or a junior synonym. Baker et al. (1996) listed A. fraxinivorus as a junior synonym of A. fraxiniflora, presumably because both species cause inflorescence galls on ash. With the discovery of a species of Aceria found causing flower galls to Fraxinus pennsylvanica, which is an introduced species of ash from North America, Korda et al. (2019) provide evidence that this species is different from A. fraxinivora and, in consideration of the North American origin of the host, and comparison with specimens identified as A. fraxiniflora in the USA, they tentatively apply the name A. fraxiniflora to these mites.
