Rank Reasons
Almost strictly arctic-alpine, Pleuroclada albescens is apparently found at high latitudes throughout the Northern Hemisphere, although its distribution in Asia is poorly known. In North America, the liverwort is more widespread in the west, ranging from Alaska south to high elevations in Montana and Washington. In eastern North America, it occurs very rarely and sporadically, ranging from Greenland south to Quebec. In Europe, the species is found from northern Scandinavia southward to Scotland, recurring in alpine localities in central Europe, and ranging eastward into Asia.
