Taxonomic Comments
Flora of North America Editorial Committee (2006) includes Tanacetum huronense, T. camphoratum, and T. douglasii in T. bipinnatum. Kartesz (1994 and 1999) excluded T. camphoratum (which included T. douglasii) and recognized T. huronense as a subspecies of T. bipinnatum.

Rank Reasons
Tanacetum bipinnatum is a perennial herb that is found in the northern hemisphere. With a large range extent, over 300 occurrences, and broad habitat preferences for abundant habitat, this species is considered secure.
Range Extent Comments
Tanacetum bipinnatum is found in the northern hemisphere along coastlines, lake shores, and large rivers in the northern United States, Canada, and Russian. Range extent was estimated using herbarium specimens and photo-based observations documented between 1993 and 2024 (GBIF 2024, iNaturalist 2024, SEINet 2024).
Occurrences Comments
By applying a 1 km separation distance to herbarium records and photo-based observations documented between 1993 and 2024, there are estimated to be more than 300 occurrences rangewide (GBIF 2024, iNaturalist 2024, SEINet 2024).
Threat Impact Comments
Although threats are not widely documented, Tanacetum bipinnatum is potentially threatened by development, road maintenance, invasive species, sea level rise, and other threats in some places. However, their overall impact is likely negligible given the species' broad range, large number of occurrences, tolerance of light disturbance, and affinity for typically abundant habitats, as well as no obvious intrinsic vulnerabilities.
Ecology & Habitat

Habitat

Tanacetum bipinnatum grows on dunes, other sandy sites, calcareous soils, coastal scrub, sandy flats, bluffs, and grassy slopes. (FNA 2006, OSU 2024).
