Taxonomic Comments
This record is for the narrow treatment of Physalis philadelphica, excluding var. immaculata and var. parviflora as varieties of P. ixocarpa, as recognized in Sullivan's FNA (2023, vol. 14) treatment. That account reports P. philadelphica as naturalized north of Mexico, but P. ixocarpa as a waif, collected sporadically in disturbed sites in the U.S. and Canada. Kartesz (1994 and 1999) included var. immaculata in P. philadelphica, although Kartesz and Gandhi (1994) transferred the variety and published the combination Physalis ixocarpa var. immaculata.
