Rank ReasonsAstragalus microcystis occurs in western North America, in the northwestern United States, and southern Canada. It occurs in western Montana, Washington, southern British Columbia, and historically in Idaho. There are about 40 occurrences documented between 1982 and 2023, and the total population size of Astragalus microcystis is not known, but is likely more than 10,000 plants. Threat impacts may be low, probably including impacts to streambank, riverbank, and gravel bar habitats from dams and water management.
Range Extent CommentsAstragalus microcystis occurs in western North America, in the northwestern United States, and southern Canada. It occurs in western Montana, Washington, southern British Columbia, and historically in Idaho. It is not documented in Wyoming. The range extent was estimated to be about 182,000 square kilometers, using herbarium specimens, photo-based observations, and NatureServe Network occurrence data collected between 1982 and 2023 (GBIF 2023, iNaturalist 2023, NatureServe 2023, Nelson and Legler 2023, SEINet 2023).
Occurrences CommentsBy applying a 1 km separation distance to herbarium specimens, photo-based observations, and NatureServe Network occurrence data documented between 1982 and 2023, it is estimated that there are about 40, or between 21 and 80 occurrences of Astragalus microcystis rangewide (GBIF 2023, iNaturalist 2023, NatureServe 2023, SEINet 2023).
Threat Impact CommentsThreats are not well documented, but may be of low impact overall, and probably include impacts to streambank, riverbank, and gravel bar habitats from dams and water management. Erosion associated with introduced mountain goat impacts has been a threat in the Olympic Mountains (WA NHP 2013).
