Habitat

Bluffs, mesas, hillsides, and washes, near the coast and slightly inland on the foothills. Found within Chaparral and Coastal Sage Scrub communities, including a variant of the later called the Coast prickly-pear community, which is extremely xeromorphic and has common cacti and Diegan division species. 0 - 800 m.
