Rank Reasons
Ericameria bloomeri is a woody perennial shrub occurring in coniferous woodlands on sandy or rocky soils of western North America from British Columbia, Canada south through California and Nevada in the United States. There are an estimated 270 occurrences of this species, which are potentially threatened by succession, wildfire suppression, development, logging, road maintenance, invasive species, and other threats in some places. Little is known about threats and trends, and monitoring populations is important to improving our understanding of the status of Ericameria bloomeri.
Range Extent Comments
Ericameria bloomeri occurs in western North America from British Columbia, Canada south through California and Nevada in the United States (FNA 2006). The Flora of North America Committee (2006) notes that this species is "apparently extirpated from British Columbia," but there are several extant occurrences in southern parts of the province discovered in 2013 and 2014 (NatureServe 2025). Range extent was estimated using herbarium specimens, photo-based observations, and NatureServe Network occurrence data collected between 1994 and 2025 (RARECAT 2024, GBIF 2025, iNaturalist 2025, NatureServe 2025, SEINet 2025).
Occurrences Comments
By applying a 1 km separation distance to herbarium specimens, photo-based observations, and NatureServe Network occurrence data documented between 1994 and 2025, it is estimated that there are 270 occurrences rangewide (RARECAT 2024, GBIF 2025, iNaturalist 2025, NatureServe 2025, SEINet 2025).
Threat Impact Comments
Although threats are not widely documented, Ericameria bloomeri is potentially threatened by succession, wildfire suppression, development, logging, road maintenance, invasive species, and other threats in some places.
