Streptopus amplexifolius

FNA (vol. 26, 2002) lumps subspecific taxa, saying that minute differences in leaf-margin serration do not warrant varietal recognition.

Streptopus amplexifolius is a wide-ranging perennial herb in forests across the Temperate Northern Hemisphere, including Greenland and Labrador, Canada west to Minnesota in the United States, south in the mountains in the east to North Carolina and in the west from Alaska and Kamchatka, Russia south to New Mexico and Arizona, in Japan, and in the Alps in Europe. Threats include development, recreational activities, silvicultural activities, and invasive species. Little is known about trends, but with a large range extent and large number of occurrences, this species is considered secure.

Streptopus amplexifolius occurs in the Temperate Northern Hemisphere, including Greenland and Labrador, Canada west to Minnesota in the United States, south in the mountains and disjunctly to North Carolina and in the west from Alaska and Kamchatka, Russia south to New Mexico and Arizona, in Japan, and in the Alps in Europe (Weakley and the Southeastern Flora Team 2023).

By applying a 1 km separation distance to herbarium specimens, photo-based observations, and NatureServe Network occurrence data documented between 1993 and 2024, it is estimated that there are over 700 occurrences rangewide (GBIF 2024, iNaturalist 2024, NatureServe 2024, SEINet 2024).

Although threats are not widely documented, Streptopus amplexifolius is threatened by development, recreational activities, silvicultural activities, invasive species, and other threats in some places, though there is insufficient data, including anecdotal accounts, to understand scope and severity of threats for this species (NatureServe 2024).
