Rank Reasons
Large range in North America and Central America; large population size; many subpopulations; apparently stable population; tolerant of and even benefits from many anthropogenic habitat alterations.
Range Extent Comments
Breeding range extends from Alaska east across central Canada to Newfoundland, and south through most of the United States and much of Mexico to northern Baja California, Nicaragua, the U.S. Gulf Coast and northern Florida (AOU 1998, Middleton 1998). Winter range extends from the southern United States southward to northern Nicaragua (AOU 1998, Middleton 1998).
Occurrences Comments
This species is represented by a large number of occurrences (subpopulations).
Threat Impact Comments
No major threats are known. This species often benefits from common types of habitat alteration.
Ecology & Habitat

Habitat

Habitat includes open woodlands, forest and woodland edges, edges of lakes and streams, grassy fields, parks, farm yards, orchards, and areas with similar vegetation structure. Nests usually are in trees or shrubs, usually within 1-6 meters of the ground but may be higher.

Reproduction

Clutch size is 3-5 (usually 4). Incubation lasts 11-14 days. Individual females may produce 2 broods per year. Both parents tend altricial young, which leave nest in 9-12 days.
