Taxonomic Comments
This record represents the full species record for Holodiscus discolor following FNA (vol. 9, 2014) which includes H. discolor var. dumosus (=H. dumosus) and recognizes H. microphyllus as a distinct species (with three varieties). In contrast, Kartesz (1994) recognized H. discolor (including H. microphyllus and its varieties) and H. dumosus as distinct species. Other treatments recognize a broader treatment of H. discolor with var. dumosus and var. microphyllus as accepted varieties (e.g., as in Ackerfield 2022).
